The Bed & Breakfast La Porta del Cilento is located in Varco Cilentano, 4 km from the sea and approximately 5 km from the archaeological site of Paestum and the Sanctuary of Madonna del Granato.
Varco Cilentano, in ancient times, was the entrance (hence the name) to an inland road that merchants from Paestum used. They would climb up the hills, descend on the opposite side towards the Alento River, and reach the ancient Elea by raft. It represented, in many ways, the southern boundary of the Paestum region.
Today, the area where the B&B La Porta del Cilento stands is the gateway to an unparalleled territory. Within the historical and natural context of the Cilento National Park, you’ll find the Angevin-Aragonese castle in Agropoli, the renowned temples of Paestum, the ancient site of Velia, the medieval village and fortress (12th century) of Castellabate, the promontory of Capo Palinuro, and the archaeological-natural oasis of Punta Licosa.
