It is just a few kilometers away from the ski resorts of Passolanciano-Majelletta.
Must-see attractions include the Wolf Wildlife Area and the "Valle del Foro Regional Reserve," a protected natural area of Abruzzo since 1991, known for its distinctive rock-cut mills.
Pretoro offers breathtaking panoramic views, with a cool summer climate and dry winters. The area is ideal for skiing, trekking, climbing, and mountain biking enthusiasts. It's rich with numerous trails, hermitages, and stunning natural oases, such as the renowned Valle dell'Orfento Nature Reserve and the Hermitage of San Bartolomeo.
With its origins dating back to Roman times, Pretoro resembles a nativity scene, with houses stacked on top of each other, clinging to the mountainside. The village is shaped like a medieval hamlet, with a maze of narrow alleys and staircases that interconnect the dense network of homes.
